In March of this year, the European Parliament passed a bill with an overwhelming number of votes, stipulating a total ban on the use of disposable plastic products such as drinking straws, tableware and cotton swabs in EU countries from 2021.

This bill expressly prohibits the use of 10 disposable plastic products, such as disposable tableware, food bags, straws, beverage cups, and bottles (a type of plastic bottle). It is reported that the EU also encourages member states to gradually reduce the use of plastic packaging and adopt stricter labeling rules

Countries take action to curb marine debris

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Canadians throw away more than 34 million plastic bags every day. These plastic bags usually end up in landfills, which may take up to 1,000 years. rot.

At the G7 summit held in Charlevoix, Quebec in June last year, Canada and four other major economies signed the Marine Plastic Charter and agreed to find ways to deal with marine plastic waste. The signatories agreed to take measures to curb plastic pollution, and some of these countries have established laws to reduce plastic consumption.

A report commissioned by the Canadian Ministry of Environment to consult Deloitte and ChemInfo Services found that in 2016, only 9% of plastic waste was recycled in Canada, and 87% of plastic waste ended up in landfills.
